Double Meet Updates!

Yesterday was a busy one for Greece Athena Track and Field as the team was competing at two locations: while the majority of student-athletes were participating in a league meet at the NY Chiropractic College, select Varsity student-athletes travelled to Cornell for the Hurley-Quinney Invite (also the site of the March 3 NYSPHSAA Indoor Track and Field Championship Meet). Both sites featured solid performances by our student-athletes in a wide range of events.
Highlights included:
  • Junior Katie Fisher won the girl's high jump and in doing so broke the Greece Athena High School indoor high jump record by going 5'02"! The previous record of 5'00" had been shared by Helen Lee (1995-1996) and Heather Klimuszka (2006-07). Katie's previous best had been 4'10", and an improvement of 4 inches is significant! Katie has qualified automatically for Class A Sectionals and is seeded third in Class A Sectionals!
  • Junior Keith Pease won the 1600m run at the Hurley-Quinney Invite at Cornell by posting a season best of 4:24.61! The Hurley-Quinney was held on the New York State Championship track and Keith remains the top seed in ALL OF SECTION V in this event!
  • Sophomore Terrance Harley won the 55m dash, also at the Hurley-Quinney Invite at Cornell, by posting a season best of 6.55! Terrance, along with junior Brian Smith, continue to hold the top two passions in this event in ALL OF SECTION V. Brian also won the 300 meter dash nearly matching his Section V record time.
  • The following JV student-athletes concluded their indoor seasons by posting personal records: freshmen Susan Doan (600m) and Clair Teal (600m), sophomore Latricia Agee (600m), sophomores Cameron Gross (600m) and Jacob Latuik (Shot).
There remains only one Rochester Winter Track League meet between today and the Class A Sectional meet at RIT on Saturday, February 18. (There is also a "Field Event Only" meet that select student-athletes will be attending on Saturday, February 11.)

With the JV season now having concluded, those student-athletes are no longer expected at practice. I will continue to inform those who 1) do not need to practice and 2) have to turn in their uniforms, when I see them in school. JV student-athleets should however continue training independently in the time between the conlusion of this and the start of outdoor season. Greece Athena Track and Field practice is tentatively scheduled to begin March 12. There will be student informational meetings held in the week's leading up to that date.
Official results for this weekend's RWTL meet are available by goign to Yentiming.com and clicking on "Jan 28-NY Chiro-BE-Results".
